Choir & Music Ministries

Music is an essential element in our church services, from weekly worship to seasonal events.

Music is an essential element in our church services, from weekly worship to seasonal events. Under the direction of Dr. Virginia Haisten, our weekly service incorporates the St. George’s Choir, which rehearses weekly, accompanied by the Steuart Goodwin pipe organ, the Yamaha Conservatory grand piano or the St. Mark’s Bell Choir.

Our aim has always been to incorporate the talents in our community and we have had youth choirs, brass ensembles, and solos drawn from the church membership when available. All are welcome to make a joyful noise with us!

Adult Choir

I will sing with the spirit and with the understanding also. — I Corinthians 14:15

Music is an essential element for our church from weekly services, seasonal and special services, memorial services, weddings, and informal events. We offer something for everyone of all ages and abilities. Our music program is organized in a choir system.

The St. George’s Choir for adult and teen singers rehearses weekly. The St. Mark’s Bell Choir rehearses seasonally and performs for selected Sundays and special services throughout the year. The St. Cecilia’s Choir for youth ages 10 and up, the St. David’s Choir for children preschool and elementary ages, and the St. Gabriel’s Brass Choir are offered when numbers of participants are available. Instrumental and vocal soloist and small ensemble opportunities are encouraged and welcome. Come and join in the fun!

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the Earth. — Psalm 100:1

St. Mark’s Bell Choir

Purchased in 2014 as a memorial to honor the passing of congregation member Mark Allen, the 2-octave set of Suzuki Tone Chimes are used throughout the year during our weekly worship and seasonal celebrations.

If you want to participate in the musical ministries, but do not sing, this is the perfect place for you!

The tonal design for the instrument is conceived and uniquely designed for the worship space at St. George’s with balance and the accompaniment of congregational singing as its main goal. The tonal foundation begins with a principal chorus in the Great with ranks at 8’, 4’. 2’, and a III-IV Mixture. An 8’ Open Flute is also located in the Great. The ensemble in the Swell begins with an 8’ Viola da Gamba, then a 4’ Fugara, an 8’ Celeste for color and an 8’ Trumpet that is available from both manuals. An ingenious feature of the organ is the Gedeckt, a stopped flute, which has been conceived as a unit and which is available from all manuals at many pitches. The mechanical conveniences of this two manual and pedal, electro-pneumatic action organ include solid-state relays, balanced Swell and Crescendo pedals, and an electronic combination.

Piano

The sanctuary is home to the 1976 Yamaha Conservatory C-3 grand piano (6’1”) which was added in 2003.
